Thank you so much to all who attended our production of “The Businessman”, devised by the students and performed at The Leytonstone Library on the 20th of July. It was a huge success and we are immensely proud of the children.
We are now super excited to dive into a fresh term of creation and we welcome new students from all backgrounds.
We will be running two classes on Mondays at The Leytonstone United Free Church…
5:45pm – 6:30pm: Games, story-telling and performance, for ages 6-10
6:30pm – 7:15pm: Warm ups, technique, improvisation and script work, for ages 11-16
Drama has been a big part of the school since the beginning – with a grand theatrical finale ending every year’s annual show, and a full scale musical production being staged in August as part of the yearly Summer School – and now, since last year, drama forms part of our regular timetable.
The classes are taught by Jennie Dunne (the principal’s daughter) and Jonathan Young.
Jennie trained at the Lecoq school of physical theatre in Paris before completing a Masters in Acting at East 15. She now works as a professional actress, under the stage name Genevieve Dunne, and has toured the world and appeared both on stage and on the big screen. She is delighted to be continuing the classes, following the success of last year’s show and is excited to teach both existing pupils of the Mary Dunne Theatre School and members of the wider general public.
Jonathan Young studied drama and performing arts at Middlesex University and has worked as a professional actor under the stage name Noah Young, for the past 10 years, specialising in Shakespeare, physical theatre and the classical cannon. Along with Jennie, he runs his own company, NMT Automatics, updating ancient myths, giving them relevance to a modern audience, fusing dance and drama and taking music as a primary source of inspiration.
This year Jonathan has been accepted into the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama to complete a Masters in Movement Directing, but is thrilled to be teaching at The Mary Dunne Theatre School at the same time.
Both teachers are fully DBS checked
