SEPTEMBER 2022 UPDATE Mary Dunne Dance and Theatre School

Hello! We are delighted to announce that we will be running classes in person at The Leytonstone United Free Church from Monday 5th September.

Classes are now £6.00 and must be paid for whether attended or not. We encourage all parents to pay in advance by the half term, but you can also pay weekly, either by contactless, bank transfer, or correct cash. We have several places available and welcome enquiries from all new prospective families.

Leytonstone’s longest running dance and drama school. Founded in 1990.

Mary Dunne Theatre School was established in 1990 and has been growing and improving ever since. We follow the British Theatre Dance Association Syllabus, enabling children to progress through gradework in ballet, tap, and acrobatics. At the higher levels, these grades are the equivalent of GCSE’s, A Levels and eventually UCAS points, which all contribute to a student’s chances of entering into the university of his or her choice.

We believe in hard work, professionalism and perseverance. Our prices are competitive and our standards are among the highest in London. On average, we expect to see each child take at least one exam per year, and every January, we put on an annual showcase, held at a professional, fully equipped theatre.

In addition to our regular classes, we also offer an open modern class, and a Summer School, held at the end of July/beginning of August, at the end of which the children present their own version of a well loved musical.

We welcome children aged 4-18 from all backgrounds and nationalities and hope that you find joy and satisfaction in our family environment.

All classes last 45 minutes; the grade classes are generally divided between ballet and tap, with some time for modern jazz.

The acrobatics classes begin with a warm up and explore flexibility, elevation, balance work and floor gymnastics.

The open modern class is for anyone from age 10 upwards with an interest in commercial, jazz and contemporary styles.

The Principal of the school is Mary Dunne, honorary member of BTDA (British Theatre Dance Association).

Mary began her professional career as a dancer in London’s West End before becoming one of the founding members of 80’s hit rock and roll band, Wall Street Crash, in which she toured the world as one of the lead singers for over 20 years. (http://www.wallstreetcrash.co.uk/). She has over 40 years teaching experience, is fully DBS checked and owns public liability for the school and its specialisms.
